💸 YouTube Doubles Watch Hour Monetisation Threshold: What It Means for Creators

Plus, Disney+ and TikTok partner to bring creator content directly into the streaming app.

Welcome back to Influencer Insider! I hope you're having a great week.

What a week it's been for news! We started off learning that Disney+ and TikTok partnered to bring creator content directly into the streaming app.

Then we were hit with the huge news that YouTube was DOUBLING its 4,000 Watch Hours Monetisation threshold. More on what that means for creators in today's newsletter.

And finally, Anthropic just announced that its AI content is going to be watermarked. A win for AI transparency IMO.

One more thing: we've started rolling out CreatorFest sessions on OnDemand+. Check out the first few here exclusively for our paying subscribers.

Now, on with the news!

📝 Pick of the day

YouTube Doubles Watch Hour Monetisation Threshold: What It Means for Creators
YouTube has just made the huge decision to double its monetisation threshold from 4,000 hours to 8,000 hours. It’s the first alteration the platform has made to its YPP since 2018.

The Shorts threshold has also been doubled from 10 million to 20 million views across a 90-day period, meaning it’s now twice as hard to get monetised.

This won’t affect anyone who hits the current threshold before the 1st of February 2027, and the 1,000 subscriber limit will stay the same. But for new and emerging creators, it sets a much higher bar.

✨ Campaign of the week: Tate McRae x Neutrogena

Tate McRae has stirred up 20 million views on this Neutrogena ad... for better or for worse.

In a short video, the pop star filmed herself taking off her makeup with a Neutrogena cleansing wipe... yet she isn't actually taking her makeup off.

The comments are very mixed, with many criticising the ad. But honestly, it's got everyone talking - so did Neutrogena actually win?

💭 Thursday thoughts

Hope you got to see the very cool eclipse last night! I saw this amazing video from Olympic skateboarder, Danny León, who timed a ramp jump to the second the eclipse hit its peak in Spain. His video has topped 20 million views, and he's labelled it "el truco de mi vida," AKA "the trick of my life."
