Meta Faces Social Media Addiction Trial: What It Means for Creators

Tuesday 18th August saw the beginning of a trial which could change the fate of social media as we know it - we’re of course talking about the Meta social media addiction trial.

Stemming from a lawsuit filed in 2023 by 29 US states, Meta stands accused of violations of federal and state privacy laws for children. The accusers are now seeking billions in reparations from the platform as well as fundamental changes to how it operates. These include removing like counts on posts, infinite scrolling and autoplay, filters that alter appearance, disappearing stories, and the ability to create multiple accounts. They also demand compulsory parental account verification for users under 18.

✨ Campaign of the week: The Salish Matter Order

Chipotle has been killing it with brand deals since Mr Fantasy, in my opinion. This time around, they're introducing the Salish Matter order, inspired by young creator Salish's organic Chipotle fandom - lol.

She's one of the biggest creators for Gen Alpha (even though she just makes the cut as a Gen Z) spotted on her dad's YouTube channel, Jordan Matter, with over 37 million subscribers.

For years, she's been featuring Chipotle meals in her content and she finally got to make her own signature order. A natural partnership that was just waiting to happen!

👀 Algowatch: YouTube is changing views

YouTube will soon be changing how public views are counted across the platform, so from the 24th August, any watch time will count as a view - whether it's a second or a minute.
