Meta has quietly introduced a new Reddit-style standalone app called Forum, signalling a renewed focus on community-led conversations and interest-based engagement at a time when social platforms are looking beyond traditional feeds.

The app is designed around Facebook Groups and aims to create a dedicated space for discussions, recommendations and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.

Users log in with their Facebook credentials and can access their existing groups, profile information and activity history. While Forum operates as a separate app, it remains closely tied to Facebook, with posts and interactions syncing across both platforms. Users can also participate using nicknames, adding an extra layer of flexibility to conversations.

According to Meta, Forum is built to prioritise meaningful discussions rather than algorithm-driven trends. The platform's feed focuses on active group conversations, helping members stay connected to topics and communities that matter most to them.

One of the app's most notable features is an AI-powered "Ask" function. This tool allows users to submit questions and receive responses compiled from relevant discussions taking place across multiple groups. Meta has also integrated AI tools for community administrators, including moderation support and management assistance.

For influencer marketers, the launch reflects a broader shift towards community-first social experiences. As audiences increasingly seek trusted recommendations and authentic discussions, private and niche communities continue to grow in importance. Brands and creators have already been using Facebook Groups to foster loyalty and deepen engagement, and a dedicated app could further strengthen those connections.

The move is not entirely new for Meta. The company previously launched a standalone Groups app in 2014 before discontinuing it three years later. Forum suggests Meta believes there is renewed demand for platforms centred on shared interests and community interaction.

The launch follows the recent introduction of Instants, another new Meta app that focuses on sharing disappearing photos with Instagram connections. Together, the releases point to a more aggressive product strategy from the social media giant.

Whether Forum can carve out a meaningful position in a market already dominated by platforms such as Reddit remains to be seen. However, its emphasis on trusted communities, AI-assisted discovery and deeper conversations highlights where Meta believes social engagement is heading next.
