We are sitting in mid-2026, and between Kane Parsons (Kane Pixels) driving A24’s biggest box office previews with Backrooms and Curry Barker turning a YouTube sketch background into a £148M+ Blumhouse blockbuster with Obsession. Like so many other “creator-to’s,” the "creator-to-director" pipeline is slowly becoming an industry standard - spearheaded by Gen Zs, I may add!

As most creatives know, breaking into the film industry can feel impossible. Many creators use the internet to take their career into their own hands; speaking to Henry Rowley at CreatorFest 2025, I learned that his goal was always to be an actor and his content was the driver helping him get there. 

Curry Barker, a 26-year-old YouTuber-turned-filmmaker, made his hit horror film “Obsession” in just 20 days on a mere $750,000 budget. Just three years ago, he was making viral skits on TikTok, and now he’s directed one of the biggest films of the year.
