Back in December, research commissioned by the data company, fifty-five, revealed that over half of marketers were at risk of severe fines for breaching GDPR legislation. The majority (54%) of respondents disclosed that they did not have a Consent Management Platform, and almost half (47%) didn’t even realise that they required one.

The survey also showed how many marketers were confused about who should be responsible for enforcing proper privacy regulations, assuming the duty fell to other members of the team.

The survey and its findings acted as a warning to marketers to ensure that their GDPR compliance was in order, as many were at risk of being handed big penalties by the Information Commissioners’ Office (ICO).

This threat wasn’t a bluff. Performance marketing network Monetise Media Limited (MML) has been issued a fine of £125,000 for breaching privacy regulations. Details of the penalty are listed in the ICO’s penalty notice.
