Microsoft will discontinue the coupon code finder in its Microsoft Shopping browser extension tomorrow, on May 31.

Users of the Edge browser are now seeing a notice that reads: “To simplify our shopping offering, we are discontinuing the Coupons feature in Edge.” Other features, such as Cashback, Price Comparison, and Price History, will remain available.

The company has not stated a reason for the change, and when asked for further details, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed only that the message in the extension is accurate.

The update comes shortly after a group of online content creators filed a lawsuit against Microsoft. The plaintiffs allege the coupon tool was interfering with affiliate links and redirecting commissions to Microsoft. They claim this undermined their ability to earn income from product recommendations made through their platforms.

The lawsuit arrived alongside a wave of others directed at multiple browser extensions earlier this year, alleging the same misconduct.

Microsoft introduced the coupon feature in 2020, promoting it as a way to help users save by automatically surfacing available codes at checkout.

The timing also precedes new Chrome Web Store policies, set to take effect on June 10, which will restrict how browser extensions can earn affiliate commissions. Microsoft Shopping is no longer available on the Chrome Web Store.

It remains to be seen whether the discontinuation of the coupon tool will have any bearing on the ongoing legal proceedings.
