Last week, Google startled publishers with the announcement of a new core update.
As part of its crusade for ‘helpful content’, the tech monolith will roll out an algorithmic crackdown on spam across its SERPs. This sounds reasonable enough. But, wait… they consider what to be spam?
Google has classified news sites ‘hosting coupons provided by a third party’ as spam in the new update’s fine print. While it’s not the clearest categorisation out there, we can interpret that this is referring to the abundance of news publications also hosting coupon code pages.
