Australian cashback platform Cashrewards has announced it will be closing down, ceasing operations from 12pm AEST, Monday 8 September.

In an email sent to partners, the company explained that it will stop sharing deals with immediate effect, and the site will shut down entirely on Friday, 24 October 2025. The message reassured members that all cashback will be returned to bank accounts before this date.

Founded in 2014 by Andrew and Lorica Clarke, Cashrewards grew to become one of Australia’s largest cashback providers. The platform currently serves 2.5 million members and 2,000 brands. Over the years, it has generated AU$165 million in cashback and driven more than AU$4 billion in sales for advertisers.

No reason for the closure has been publicly disclosed.

Since the announcement, multiple voices across Australia’s affiliate industry have shared their reflections on LinkedIn.

Angus Muffet, General Manager at ShopBack, said that Cashrewards helped to “create awareness of the category” and brought savings to “millions of Australians.” As competitors, Muffet noted that Cashrewards “pushed (them) to do better.”

“We’ve always appreciated the role Cashrewards played in building the market alongside us,” he commented.

ShopBack’s Commercial Director, Tom Howard, echoed the sentiment: “We might have been frenemies on paper, but that rivalry was a good thing. It kept us sharp, pushed us to think bigger, and made the industry stronger.”

Annabel Gray, Vice President APAC at Silverbean, said, “Cashrewards were instrumental in laying the foundations for affiliate here… It’s a sad moment to see such an iconic Australian publisher close their doors.”

David Glasgow, Founder at BlueGum, shared his thoughts for the team: “My thoughts are with everyone at CR who suddenly finds themselves in a difficult spot.”

Former employees also posted tributes. Umair Usama, Affiliates Director at Carat Australia, wrote, “I know firsthand the incredible talent that has been part of the team over the years.”

Dilyar Barat, Customer Insights Analyst at Unitywater, said, “It was an environment filled with incredibly talented people who cared deeply about building a great product. My thoughts are with you all.”

Though its doors are closing, the impact Cashrewards made on members, partners, and the wider affiliate industry in Australia won’t be forgotten.
