Last week, a German court ruled that Google must pay  €572 million in damages to two German price comparison companies.

Idealo, one of Germany’s largest affiliate publishers, will be receiving €465 million, and price comparison tool Producto will be receiving €107 million.

Originally, Idealo had claimed damages of €3.3 billion. The court ordered that a mere 14.1% of that be awarded to the company.

Idealo plans to pursue further legal action, arguing that the amount awarded “reflects only a fraction of the actual damage.”

Nevertheless, the lawsuit so far has been a positive start for the publisher.

“It felt very good to fight back,” says Malte Landwehr.
