Carolyn McMurray did what many famous Founders did before her: drop out of university to pursue her passions. While many stuffy boardrooms might be shaking their heads at her LinkedIn, she’s managed to grow a community of 2,500+ Gen Z Copywriters, offering them courses, seminars, events and even job opportunities.
McMurray is the perfect example of a Gen Z Founder taking their own initiative instead of trying to fit in with LinkedIn's corporate culture. Back in 2022, she was one of the first accounts I followed that didn’t feel like a corporate wall I would never understand.
I had a great time chatting with her about her journey to building a community, her way.
Sofia Aira: Firstly, how old were you when you first founded Word Tonic? I feel like you were really young.
Carolyn McMurray: I was 22. I started copywriting when I was 17, but the Word Tonic stuff started when I was 22.
