PayPal has struck a deal with OpenAI to become the first payments wallet integrated directly into ChatGPT. The move will allow millions of users to make purchases through OpenAI Instant Checkout, powered by PayPal’s payments infrastructure.

Beyond payments, the partnership positions PayPal at the centre of the next wave of AI-enabled commerce, connecting its vast global network of sellers to ChatGPT. This means small businesses, creators, and established brands will soon be able to sell directly inside the chat interface, transforming discovery into conversion.

What will the deal look like?

The integration is expected to roll out next year, with all of PayPal’s features connected to OpenAI.

PayPal explained what this could look like on LinkedIn:

“Built on PayPal’s trusted payments infrastructure, identity verification, and purchase protection, our new services will include:

“Agent ready: Enables millions of existing PayPal merchants to accept payments on AI surfaces with no additional technical lift required.

Store sync: Makes merchants’ product data discoverable across leading AI channels and integrates seamlessly with their existing fulfilment systems.

“Our framework-agnostic approach supports leading payments protocols and AI platforms so merchants don’t have to pick winners or rebuild their infrastructure. Your connection with PayPal will enable discovery across multiple AI shopping surfaces, starting with Perplexity, OpenAI, and more to come.”

The integration allows consumers to complete purchases using PayPal’s wallet options alongside buyer and seller protections, order tracking, and dispute resolution.

What it means for creators and brands

For creators and influencer-led brands, this partnership could be transformative. ChatGPT’s conversational interface, combined with PayPal’s commerce engine, will pave the way for instant transactions in this payments wallet. Influencers could soon see their brand collaborations or product lines surfaced and sold directly within ChatGPT conversations, making it easier than ever for audiences to move from inspiration to purchase.

This partnership marks a pivotal moment for AI-powered creator commerce.
