For affiliate marketing, the fast pace of the Big Tech world, particularly search, has often yielded rough consequences over the past couple of years. Algorithm changes, rankings, and updates cause more troubles than perks.
The recent PMA report showed that 52% of marketers are 'very concerened' about Google's impact.
But the tide seems to be turning. AI search is completely revolutionising the way users can browse the web and shop online. However, as with any shifting, quick-moving tides, treat with caution. Stay at the top of your game
Today's Tip of the Week (and meme) comes from Andrew Yan, a former Google Product Manager who has now co-founded the GEO platform, Athena.
Everyone is trying to get GEO ready right now, but a lot of the guidelines are still pretty vague.
Yan shared his "surgical" approach.
"AI models pull from 20 to 40 sources per query," he writes. "Humans only check the top 3 Google results, maybe more of page 1 if you're lucky. This creates a massive opportunity for your brand."
AI models do not care about your ranking in Google. A blog in the 34th spot has just as good a chance of being cited as the first result. AI wants to see "deep technical discussions."
He suggests, "Take your top 20 customer questions. Run them through multiple AI models. Map every single citation. You'll discover industry-specific publications that consistently get referenced but rank between positions 20 to 40 on Google."
What are the benefits here? A new level playing field for publishers, where you can shoot to the top based on your content alone, rather than authority, backlinks, and SEO tactics. For advertisers, it provides a new strategy to onboard affiliates you might not have sought after before.
Yan calls this "content arbitrage." What was once of little value in Google Search, can now carry real weight in AI search.
