The possibility of TikTok being banned in the United States is nothing new, but today, Monday 16th, lawyers head to court in the United States to try and stop the ban from materialising.

If you’re unsure why the United States government is threatening to ban the short-form video app, TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance, have been under scrutiny from the US due to the app’s ties to China. It’s been argued that the app poses security risks because the Chinese government could access sensitive information about Americans. As a result, the US government have pushed a law, signed in April, requiring ByteDance to sell the app to a non-Chinese owner or face a ban.
