Instagram has just launched new monetisation tools for creators. Today, the platform is rolling out access to Badges in Live internationally to an initial group of over 50,000 creators.
Badges in Live allow creators to make money while also deepening the connection between creators. Fans will be able to purchase badges during their live videos to stand out in the comments and show support. They also unlock special features, including placement on a creator’s list of badge holders and access to a special heart. Instagram users will see three options to purchase a badge during live videos: badges that cost $0.99, $1.99, or $4.99.
To support the roll-out, Instagram will also temporarily match earnings from Badges starting in November. Creators @ronnebrown and @youngezee are among those who are testing badges. The platform said it is another step forward in its “vision to build a suite of tools that help creators make money through branded content, shopping, content monetisation, and direct support from fans.” As they test and gather feedback, they will expand badges to more creators around the world.
In addition, Instagram said it will expand IGTV ads beta test to more creators in the US. They have been testing this over the past couple of months with a smaller group and will now begin to expand access on an ongoing basis. Today, creators keep at least 55% of that revenue, according to Instagram.
