Pinterest told Search Engine Journal it is currently testing a number of new shopping features on the platform to make shopping easier for Pinners who visit the platform to look for inspiration.
These include product ratings, Popular, and “Best Seller” labels to draw more attention to product pins in the hope to result in more sales for retailers.
A spokesperson said in a statement to Search engine Journal that: “Millions of people come to Pinterest every month to find inspiration about what to try and buy. That’s why we’re continuing to make it easier for Pinners to find products from trusted merchants, especially as parents are adjusting to this new kind of Back to School season.”
The platform is testing labels such as ‘Popular’ and ‘Best Seller’ on product images on Shop. The labels are similar to those on e-commerce apps and will allow users to see trending products based on other users’ purchases.
It also makes it easier for buyers to choose, as they can differentiate between products within their price range, prompting higher chances of a purchase.
Pinterest is also testing product ratings to help users with their purchasing decision and determine the quality of products. The social platform will collect aggregated product ratings from retailer websites and include shipping information below the ratings in a Product Pin.
Pinterest is also updating its Shopping Spotlights section — the curated shopping recommendations in the search tab. The section will now also feature elaborate descriptions, articles and stories from publishers and influencers enabling them to organise their posts into categories.
