Stay at the top of your game

“Most brands treat affiliates like a side channel. The smart ones treat affiliates like paid media,” says Ishtvan Torpoi.

According to Ishtvan, scale comes when affiliates act like media buyers.

“Your job as an advertiser isn’t to ‘get affiliates’. Your job is to give affiliates something they can run profitably.”

This means zoning in on strong copy and multiple creatives, testing for volume and conversation rate and, when the time calls for it, killing your darlings. 

Indeed, while good affiliates will double down on what works, bad programmes try to keep everything alive, says Ishtvan. 

But it’s also about shifting mindset. Affiliates, he says, are not just publishers, but also traffic buyers with their own budget.

“Treat affiliates like paid media and your program will start scaling like it.”
