Tip of the Week
Stay at the top of your game
Are you more likely to read a 5.0 star newsletter with 20 subscribers, or a 4.2 star newsletter with 5,000 subscribers?
This week's top tip comes from Ad Psychology. Perfect 5-star ratings don’t always inspire trust. In fact, they rarely do.
Research from Northwestern University and PowerReviews found that products rated between 4.2 and 4.5 actually drive more purchases than perfect scores.
Consumers have developed a healthy scepticism of perfection, seeing only 5-star reviews without any criticism triggers their “BS detector." The majority (82%) of shoppers actively look for negative reviews to see if flaws matter to them personally.
The takeaway here is to be wary of claiming you’re “#1.” It's overdone and bears little weight. Instead, share a hyper-specific, verifiable metric that only you can back up.
It's the details that build trust. Perfection does not.
