How do you know if you’ve stayed in a business too long? There are two schools of thought, on one hand you’re loyal and you have, osmosis-like, absorbed the DNA of the company. You live and breathe it. Conversely, has your capacity for critical thinking run dry? Are you still invested enough to challenge convention while focused on building the best for your customers?

I’ve had plenty of time to reflect on those two opposing views having left  Awin after 16 years. It was a big and very personal decision for me. When the reality sunk in that my familiar routine since 2006 would disappear overnight, I half-joked I felt institutionalised, struggling to adjust to the mundanity of day to day life on the other side.
