Happy Tuesday!
2025 could be a crucial year for affiliate marketing. We've seen so many challenges in the past few months. The silver lining has been a close examination of what's working and what isn't across the industry.
Last week, Moonpull held an event with UK publishers and network reps to explore the 'publisher approach' to tracking this year.
The overwhelming attitude was that publishers need to be stricter. Advertisers need to fix tracking where it's broken. No more free sales.
Tracking has been a thorn in affiliate's side for a long, long time. Its flaws don't just lead to lost commissions for publishers; it can also cause disruption that leads to explosive confusion a la the Honey situation.
Perhaps this will be the year wherein monumental strides are made towards getting it right. More on that below.
Now, on with the news!

Fake reviews are a growing concern, with 75% of consumers doubting the authenticity of what they see online, according to Bazaarvoice.
While 76% of brands feel confident in their fraud detection strategies, consumers want more action, with 63% believing it’s the responsibility of the brand’s website to address the issue.
Zarina Stanford, Bazaarvoice CMO, stresses the importance of trust signals to maintain credibility.
Without consumer trust in user-generated content, brands risk losing sales. If reviews are published on an affiliate basis, make sure to flag this. And try to be as diligent as you can in removing any fake ones.
