How Was Black Friday For You?
We asked our LinkedIn followers how Black Friday went to get a rough feeling for this year's performance.
From the 24 responses, we're glad to see that most people (41.6%) experienced their best year yet, which corroborates a lot of what we've heard through the grapevine too.
Even if it wasn't their best, a sizeable chunk says it performed as well as last year, which is still reassuring.
However, it wasn't mad success across the board. Almost 17% saw a slight drop and 4% say it went terribly.
While the majority of responses indicate a positive or steady performance, we can see that Black Friday still has its ups and downs. For those who faced challenges, don't worry. There are lots of insights to be gleamed from this, so you can sharpen your strategies and get ready for the next big push in the new year.
Tip of the Week
Stay at the top of your game
The past couple weeks have been momentous for affiliate publishers, as Google once again redefined its site reputation abuse policy to include product review pages and other kinds of commerce content.
A sweep of actions took down affiliate pages for some pretty notable sites, like Forbes and CNN. We have not seen any evidence yet that this is an attempt to increase traffic to smaller affiliate sites.
So, affiliates' problems with Google sites are here to stay.
However, there are other means of search proving effective.
We all know about the power of TikTok, but large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Co-pilot are proving to be strong drivers of traffic for affiliates.
They were widely used across the Black Friday period, 20% of consumers reported using them to hunt for deals. Not only this, Malte Landwehr, Vice President of SEO at idealo, a German price comparison site, shared some stats showing just how effective AI engines are at driving users to their affiliate site.
What's more, SEO expert Lily Ray revealed that sites impacted by Google's manual actions are still appearing in AI Overviews, which sit at the very top of search results. Google will likely put an end to this soon though. Or maybe it won't. It is getting harder to predict these days.
