Speaking of Reddit...

Since we're on the topic, it's worth knowing that Google's relationship with Reddit isn't quite as peachy as it seems.

SEO brain Steve Paine shared some useful stats to LinkedIn last week. Even though Reddit typically ranks well on Google these days, it's noticeably absent from AI Overviews.

For example, in the UK, 49.4% of search results with an AI Overview contain an organic result from Reddit, but Reddit is only cited as a source in the AI Overview in 0.056% of cases.

Compared to Wikipedia, which is present as an organic result in 47% of AI Overviews and is cited as a source in 10.4% of cases, Reddit's received the short end of the stick.

Who saw this coming?

Data shows that users are generally pretty happy with AI-powered results like Overviews and a large portion prefer them. If their prevalence increases and Google keeps Reddit on the outside, it could be bad news for the platform.

Perhaps this will push the site to finally embrace affiliate marketing with open arms? Nearly all the other social platforms have built an e-commerce dimension into their interface, and some have bolstered the affiliate offering in the process. Surely, Reddit can't be too far behind?

Tip of the Week

Stay at the top of your game

Something in the coupon world, but a lesson for all.

You might have thought that all the news-owned coupon directories had gone extinct, but apparently MarieClaire.com's coupon section is performing really well.

According to SEO Consultant Andrew Shotland, MarieClaire's coupon page has actually increased in traffic this year.

Why? Well, it seems that MarieClaire only shows coupons that are relevant to its content – stuff that its readers would genuinely be interested in.

The lesson here? Google can be more complicated than a 1000-piece puzzle and you shouldn't be relying on search to run your affiliate business. BUT, sometimes it appears that its rally cry of 'helpful content' does ring true.

That's not necessarily to blame the other news sites for publishing unrelated coupons. It's hard to define a product niche for general news.

However, affiliates should keep this in mind. Make your content relevant and focused towards your audience. Don't go for the cheap sell. It will always pay off bigger in the long run.
