Tip of the Week
Affiliate fraud... What do you do about it?
It's always been there, since the beginning of affiliate marketing. Some might say it's getting worse.
But it's not unbeatable. It may keep coming back, like the common cold, but there's a ton of remedies out there.
For one, ensure that affiliate/advertiser partnerships are well-managed and there's a healthy degree of communication there. This is probably the best way to fight fraud.
But of course, this isn't always feasible. You may be using a subnetwork to partner with tens or hundreds of publishers that you don't know very well.
In this case, keep an eye on the numbers. If you notice sudden dramatic spikes in traffic for one publisher or inflated commissions, then this could very well be an instance of PPC fraud. You can always work with a fraud detection provider to help locate the threat.
Speak with your subnetwork to get to the bottom of the issue. If they can't help you, then you may want to stop working with them altogether.
Also, we are making an effort to promote best practices throughout the industry and call out bad players who are taking advantage of others in the game.
